Yes I know Midnight this still needs a lot of work but yeah Im fixing it slowly. Im too lazy to majorly update it
Hello, my name is SuperNoob, SN for short, these are the basics for GFX(Graphics) That you should know, I will also include links that will help you. This guide is aimed to all the people who are new to this forum and are lost on what to do This does not include indepth things and this is not a tutorial to make a signature, this guide is to help you get around and have the things you need to get on the right road, if you are not a begginner, I advise you to stop reading now, due to the fact that most of this information is for people who have just started So lets begin... Tables Of Contents(Color Coded) Common Terms and Acronyms: Blue Programs: Pink What are tutorials?: Green Where to get renders?: Orange Resource information: Brown The Layers Tab Purple Signature Styles: Dark Brown Saving Your Finished Tag: Grey Common Terms and Acronyms LQ=Low Quality LP=Large Piece GFX=Graphics Resource: An item you use in your signature Tag=Another word for signature Signature=The Graphic you make on your program C4D=Cinema 4 Dimensional CnC=Construction and Criticism Stock=An image that remains in its original form Render=A cut out image UB=Userbar PR=Planet Renders PS=Photoshop PSP=PaintShopPro LR=Learning Rights FR=Full Rights CR=Copyright PR=Posting Rights TPR= Team posting rights WIP=Work In Progress Programs Well you first need a program to start making GFX.There are a few you can choose from.. Paint Shop Pro GIMP Photoshop Each one of these has its own main Pro and Con. Paint Shop Pro Pros:Really easy to learn, Has its own built in help topics Cons: One of the most basic programs, GIMP and Photoshop have more options GIMP(Highly Recommended) Pros:Free, Has more options than Paint Shop Pro, GimpTalk • Ultimate gimp tutorials and premier gimp community forum for tutorials Cons:3 windows are sometimes a pain to use, kinda annoying to learn where all the options are. Photoshop Pros: The best that you can get, includes plenty of options and you get lots of online help with this program. Cons:VERY expensive, unless you are serious about Gfx I wouldn't recommend this. What is a Tutorial? A tutorial is a step by step guide on how to create a TAG similar to the outcome shown in the tutorial. Tutorials can be found in many places. Even just searching on google. You should use a different render, and different colors when using a tutorial, don't be afraid to add your own little steps in between Places I recommend are: Deviant Art Planet Renders In Deviant Art, just search something you like and put tutorial or tut at the end. Example: Halo Tutorial In planet renders, there are 2 sections. Free Tutorials and Tutorials for sale. The tutorials for sale are bought with planet render points which are accumulated when posting on the forums. Be careful since most of these tutorials are photoshop... P.S. When buying a tutorial for LR, DO NOT SHARE THE TUTORIAL WITH ANYONE ELSE. Where to get Renders? The top place to get renders is Planet Renders You need to create an account before you can join, to use a render make sure to open it to fullsize, and then right click>save image as. Open it on your program and it should be transparent. Resize it to fit your signature Renders can also be found on search engines, and other websites. Resource Information Some important resources you need are Brushes Texts Stocks C4Ds(Hold off on these until you get more familiar with your layers tab) Best Place For Brushes Deviant Art Best Place For Texts Da Font Good Place For Downloading Packs Planet Renders Deviant Art To install a font, you put the font file on your desktop, right click it and select install. To install Brushes Photoshop: Double Click the Brush File Paint Shop Pro:File>Import>Custom Brush Click Open and put your brush files into the folder GIMP: Click the download button to your desired brushes. Now the desination of the download will show up on your screen. Click Computer>HP C:>Program Files>GIMP(Your version)>share>Gimp>2.0>Brushes. Extract them and be sure they are in the same folder The Layers Tab The layers tab is really important and makes THE difference between skill in signatures. The layers tab is found usually on the right of your program and it shows your layers. The Button that says Normal> Is the button that you use to change your layer types C4D's are commonly used by changing its layer type: Heres an example on photoshop Changing the C4D layer type to screen Before: ![]() After: ![]() You can also toggle the opacity of the layer, which is really helpful, try experimenting on which layer type and what opacity percent works best Signature Styles Vector:One of the main styles of GFX making, this style involves using bright colors that tend to try to catch your attention. It also is usually based around 1 color (2 at most) and uses many shades of that color (including pure white and pure black), this is the only style where making the render look like a sticker is Desirible, a lot of advertising use this kind of GFX, brushes in this kind of GFX include solid lines, circles and shapes (no fading) Thanks to Damion ![]() Sprite2. A Signature Type, more of a sub-set of GFX art, due to it being able to be mixed with abstract, grunge, and vector. In this style, the artist uses a pixelized character (a sprite). Thanks to NoobSlice ![]() Abstract: One of the main styles of GFX making, this one consists of no real meaning and, most of the time, is completely random, although it does flow. Thanks to Damion ![]() Grunge: One of the main styles of GFX making, this one has a dark and eerie feel to the Sig. Most brushes from this style involve scratches, blood spots, and cirrus clouds Thanks to Damion ![]() Photo Manipulation: Photomanips are images put together to make one image, you need a main stock. Then you grab other stocks that would go well with your main stock, than set it to overlay and lighten and stuff. -Thanks to MiDniGHt Saving Your Finished Tag When you are done making your signature, Go to file and click save as, Be sure to save as .png and not anything else. Example Be sure to save in your programs format first. PSD for Photoshop PSPIMAGE for paintshop pro I think XCF for GIMP Jpg: ![]() Png: ![]() There is a difference in quality Thanks for reading my guide. I will update it as much as I can, I will try to add new things to it everyday. Last edited by SuperNoob; 11-29-2008 at 12:22 PM.. |

Yup, it's XCF.
Very nice guide. For people who don't know what they're doing, this will help quite a bit. You should ask Damion to put it in this thread. Guides and Tutorials Remember to put it in the proper format. |
