BM asked me a question about a term and it sparked this idea, this spot is to help new users (and old) understand terms used by other members, these terms are words used by the internet in general so please don't submit terms you or others made up
To Help use this form to submit a word you know and think should be up here [*B](Term here)[/b] (Definition) [*SIZE="1"][*B]Thanks to (your user name here)[/b][/size] ^^^ remove the stars, of course Use Ctrl + F to find a word or phrase quickly! ================================================== # and Symbols 1,2,3 Dimensions there are 3 known dimensions and arguably a fourth. The first dimension is simply a line and any sequence on the line. this has 1 dimension, Length (X). The second dimension is a plane (a single flat platform, continues forever), any side-scroller game you have ever seen is in 2D, the Computer screen you are looking at is 2D, any signature or image seen on the computer is 2D, also these are the dimensions one would mess with when making an image. this has 2 Dimensions, Length(X) and Width(Y). The Third dimension is what you live in, the ability to move your arm up, down, left, right, back, and forth is all due to the third dimension. no game is truly in the third dimension, all games are 2D, but give the appearance of being in 3D. this has 3 Dimensions, Length(X), Width(Y), and Height(Z). The Fourth Dimension is arguably non-existent, but there are 2 theories for it. one theory is the fourth dimension being time, where the same spot in the fourth dimension can never be reached again (you can't go back 3 seconds in time). if this theory is true, then we live in the fourth dimension. so the 4 dimensions are, Length, Width, Height, and Time. the second theory is another spatial one, it has no boundaries, it is exampled by the Mobius strip and Klein bottle. the four dimensions in this theory are X, Y, Z, and W.
