i think you have to make it bounce off the wall but that might be sq2.

after it shoots it's "Shoop-da-Whoop" beam, walk towards it as far as possible, ...
there is a spiked wall and when the boss hits it he'll lose life and you will be teleported below the lowest pedestal on the left... do this 4 - 5 times and you'll beat the boss

oh I saw that part too but I think it's just there to trick you into falling or something.
