Every week I am going to choose a new indie game, that everyone will download and play.
![]() For anyone who doesn't know what an indie game is... Indie games are video games that are created independently of the financial backing of a large video game publisher. These games generally have a small or non-existent budget and are often primarily available online or through friend-to-friend sharing, although in some cases budgets can run in the millions, and indie games have appeared on consoles and in game stores. Independent video game development - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Anyways, this weeks indie game is Gene Rally. It is a top-down 3D racing game. It can be played with up to six racers played with the keyboard or the AI. What makes this game better than others, is it's physics. Every car handles differently on different surfaces, very closely to real life. It also has a track editor, and many other tools for editing various parts of the game can also be downloaded. Spoiler for Dirt Track:
Spoiler for Pit Stop:
Spoiler for Three Way Pass:

I'm poor at racing games...but I like the 3D driving, and the fact that you can take different styles to the road...it must've taken a while to make, even though it's extremely low quality...

You can download better tracks and cars at the Gene Rally forums which really makes the game fun. I made a track where it's a figure eight, but where the track crosses is a jump with a huge hole in the middle, so if you don't make the jump you get trapped.
I like the graphics, they fit the game. |

Depends on what surface/car your using. If it is sliding, then you'll have to turn early and drift through the corner, other wise just turn.
If you can't find the button to turn, then you made the controls wrong. At the main menu press "New Driver" and it will bring up a menu asking for a name and player. Make the name whatever you want and change player to human. Then you'll have some options on colors/controls. That is where you change the steering. Did that help? |

To be able to download it, I need DirectX. I don't think this is downloadable for Mac.

Ya... Macs blow...
You could try to get a Windows emulator if you really want to play it. ![]() |
