To all of the Newbs out there,this is the thread to start you off.A few Do's and Don'ts and some things that might confuse you are cleared up here.

Okay, so lets start with the do's and Don'ts.
DONT'S
1.DON'T answer the Hi message Gaz sends you when you first sign up.
Everyone gets it,and by answering it you just crowd up his Inbox.

2.DON'T start complaining right away.If something bothers you wait,If you have just 3 posts and you start complaining,Nobody will pay attention, because you are just a newbie.

3: DON'T be a jerkwad.

4: DON'T talk in half sentences.taking lik dis ownli annois ppl!

5.DON'T abuse the rep system!This means "swapping" rep to get yourself higher on the members list.Don't do this,If you get caught,you can get an infraction or if a you are a repeating offender, even Banned.

DO'S
1.DO make an Introduce yourself thread,let people know who you really are.
2.DO be nice. There's nothing wrong with a bit of hospitality.
3.DO have an avatar.Its not that important,but its good to have one.
4.DO use smileys.It always makes you look nice.
5.DO be an active contributer to the site.The More the Merrier!
6.DO make sure you use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. It's not mandatory and occasional screw ups are tolerated, but if you just post some illegible junk, people are likely going to have a problem with you. Also, Mods will more likely consider it spam.
7: DO ask questions. If you are confused, there are plenty of people to help.
8: DO report posts. If you see something that qualifies as spam, click the red triangle with the exclamation mark. However, DON'T abuse this and report non-spam/flame/rule violating posts. You may recieve an infraction and/or temporary ban.


Now, the original rules as posted by Gaz. (Haha,I just stole this from his thread!)

Be nice - There's nothing wrong with being competitive but abuse and flaming will just get you banned.
Use spoiler tags - If you want to post game solutions please use spoiler tags so that other members can choose whether or not they want to see it.
Language - Games can be frustrating sometimes, but try to keep your potty mouth under control.
Don't spam - Spamming is not allowed.
Illegal activities -Please discuss them elsewhere (!)
Don't Troll- This means provoking someone else to get mad and post hateful or bad words. Don't do this.
Cheating- Don't Cheat/Hack, any cheater will have their score removed and will be banned instantly.
Advertising- Do not advertise sites that ask for personal information.
Site System- Don't abuse any site systems, an example is the Rep system.

Okay now Rep.

10 rep=1 green bar.
20 rep= 2 green bars
30 rep=3 green bars
40 rep=4 green bars.
When you 50 rep,you get a yellow bar.
60= 1 yellow, one green bar
70= 1 yellow 2 green
80= 1 yellow 3 green
90= 1 yellow 4 green.
100= 2 yellows.
This continues in the same pattern until 250 rep.Then you get a blue bar.
After 4 blues 4 yellows and 4 greens,comes a white bar.Gaz,Our admin is the only one to ever achieve this massive amount of rep.
If you are being mean or are spamming,people might take rep from you.Getting rep taken off you you repeatedly will result in Negative rep.
I do not know the exact numbers because fortunately,I have never been in the red.
But first comes a grey.
1 red,all the way up to four reds,
Which lead to a purple,after four purples you get an
Orange bar,into the same pattern until
1 Black.
Your rep power(how much you can give and take) increases with the amount of rep and posts you have.After 1 post, you get 1 rep power.
Okay, so now you understand rep.Why not try it out......on me!Just Kidding!
But if you want to,I'm not going to stop you!
Don't abuse this system or you could get banned!

Take out the full stops and,there you go!your very own spoiler tags!

I hope you don't mind that i edited this a little. Noob is a term for someone being a real idiot about stuff (I DEMAND HELP AND OR REP!), Newb is a newbie who is someone new to something. theres a difference.

If you want people to like you...

• Talk in complete sentences.
• Type out your words fully with correct spelling (EX: you not u, are not r, why not y).
• Use correct punctuation (EX: '.' at the end of sentences).
• Try not to get words confused-- you are= you're-- you own it= your.
• Do not type with big text (font size 2 is the most logical).
• Do not use all 20 of the smileys aloud in your intro. thread.
• Do not abuse the rep system, you'll get in trouble, and people will hate you for sure, but we'll get into this later.
  
• Don't make threads like crazy, if people are being mean, resolve problems privately. Only make threads for important things.
• DO NOT BE A JERK!
  

The Rep System
The Reputation System. Knowing that rep stands for reputation, you should imply that if you have a lot of rep, a lot of people like you. The only thing is that here on TGH, people gave been known to abuse this system. When you're new, you start with 10 rep. you will have 1 green bar.
1 Green= 10
2 Green= 20
3 Green= 30
4 Green= 40
1 Yellow= 50
2 Yellow= 100
3 Yellow= 150
4 Yellow= 200
1 Blue= 250

There are hundreds of various orders of rep bars that you can have.
Your rep bars are displayed at the top right of all of your posts like so:

The bars are displayed on the right.
Rep people for useful posts.
Derep people for rude, mean, or spam posts.
To do this, click the weights on the top right of your post.

Post Displays

On the top of every post you will see a total of 10 things.
First, we will go over avatars.
An avatar is displayed at the top left of each post. They are little images that show something about you, or something totally random.
There are size limits though.
Maximum Pixel Size: 100x100
Minimum Pixel Size: 0x0
Second, your name. Your name will be displayed above every post so people know who is posting it.
Third, under your name it will show your status. Once you've verified your email account, you will be a Gamer. Previous to your verification, you will be an AE Gamer.
Fourth, below your status, it will show a user title.
Tin can
Can opener
Electric Can opener
Recycle Bin
Dehumidifier
Power Drill
RoboRaptor
Remote Control Helicopter
and more.
As you post more, you will realize that it changes. Once you hit 30,000 posts, you will receive your final user title change.
Fifth, arcade percentage. In the arcade your scores are kept track of. Under your user title it will display your game percentage. You are __% better than the rest of TGH.
Sixth, next to your name you will see a dot. It will be red, green, or grey.
RED= Offline
GREEN= Online
GREY= Invisible
Seventh, join date. Self explanatory.
Eighth, location. Self Explanatory.
Ninth, post number. Self explanatory.
Tenth, Rep. Previously explained.

Signatures and How to Use 'Em
First things first, a signature is something that is displayed after every post you make (by default, this can be disabled in the post options, or in your User CP>>Settings & Options>>Edit Options).

Since it will be displayed after all of your posts, it should be chosen wisely.

It is best to be short and to the point, big huge signatures are very obnoxious and they slow the loading of the page, and big flashing .gifs distract from the content of the post.

Usually the layout for a signature is with an image and then some meaningful text. The signature overall should be not too big.

Posting
When posting, it should be related to the topic of the thread. If the thread is called Bull Riding, then the post should have something to do with the topic of Bull Riding. Posting something about your new cell phone in a Bull Riding thread will get you dereped and disliked.

Your post shouldn't be something like:

• cool
• lol
• thats cool
• wow

It should be something commenting on the main topic, and maybe some of your experience with the subject.

Your Ignore List
If you don't like a certain user, put them on your ignore list. You will not see their posts, but you will have the option.
Don't complain about them.
Pretty simple, huh?

Friends List
Pretty self explanatory. Add your friends. Click the user, and click "Add to Contacts."

Reporting Posts
To report posts, click the triangle with an exclamation point in it at the VERY top right of the post.
Note: This is ONLY to be used to report spam, advertising messages, and problematic (harassment, fighting, or rude) posts.

TGH reserves the right to delete any post it deems unsuitable without warning. We also reserve the right to ban any user whos behaviour we find unacceptable and our decision is final.

If you would like to report another user for bad behaviour or have a question please send me or any Moderator a PM. We will try our best to deal with any complaints in a sensitive manner.

That has nothing to do with the site itself, you will need a GFX program.
If you want to know how to add an avatar, that's a different story.
